Amazon’s Sad Sag Into Grocery Store Fascism
Decades ago, Jeff Bezos seemed innovative. His company, Amazon, made it easier to find obscure books that could not be found in physical bookstores. There was a genuine service that Bezos offered.
Then, Bezos made his move. Using the online social credit he had accumulated, he seized control of markets in books and far beyond, moving progressively to shut down alternative forms of commerce, making it more difficult with each passing year to find and use any alternative to the increasingly awkward Amazon.
Now, Jeff Bezos has engaged in peak enshitification of Amazon, filling the platform with sponsored results and AI generated slop that make it difficult for people to find what they are looking for. Instead of growing by helping people and spreading knowledge, Amazon maintains its dominance through dominance itself.
Amazon is a gift card hanging in the grocery store aisle next to magazines promoting the scam of cryptocurrency and profiling comedians who were famous thirty years ago.
As a corporation, Amazon is now about size for the sake of size, power for the sake of power. It isn’t a surprise, then, to see Jeff Bezos is now acting to promote the fascist movement of Donald Trump.
Jeff Bezos promised when he bought The Washington Post that he would not allow his ownership to compromise the journalistic integrity of the nation’s newpaper of record. This week, Jeff Bezos overruled The Washington Post editorial board to prevent the newspaper from endorsing Kamala Harris.
This special favor to the fascist Donald Trump took place right before a group of executives from Blue Origin, another company owned by Jeff Bezos, were scheduled to meet with Donald Trump to negotiate federal government contracts for the company.
Jeff Bezos is willing to use his power to help put a fascist in the White House in order to gain business favor. The power of Bezos exists for no purpose other than to protect itself. Thus, democracy falls.
