Open Ground
Ordinarily, it’s covered up with a carpet of green, a lawn that we fastidiously maintain. Underneath it all, however, there’s soil.
We violated the veneer of life to find the darker materials that sustains our airy pretensions. Crawling, we dug below to reach the tunnels untilled, the mycelial networks seeking, decomposing everything that we had forgotten and left behind.
We discovered that the ground is alive.
