Shifting
To be in the city and not seemed the ocean would have been an insult, so I rose before dawn and pierced through the neighborhoods in my way to watch the rising grey of the day, uncertain of the creatures observing me.
The shore dropped off quickly, and in the surging waves around me, I imagined fins and scales, hungry, but it was only the sand pulled up in circling currents around my legs.
The shore continued to move against every step of mine like waves as I struggled to gain altitude again.
