Mask on the Tree
Two weeks later, she was dead. The faith healing didn’t work.
It was designed to prevent the transmission of the deadly pandemic, but the printed fabric of the mask made her feel ridiculous, so she stuffed it in her back pocket along with her smartphone.
A friend texted her to ask if she was going to the church service later that afternoon, no social distancing required. As she pulled the smartphone from her pocket, the mask came out with it, falling in the mud next to the sidewalk.
She didn’t even notice, and got the virus later that day while the choir sang to her about Jesus. Two weeks later, she was dead. The faith healing didn’t work.
In the meantime, a neighbor found the mask, which had blown across a WalMart parking lot, and hung it up on the trunk of a pine tree… just in case someone wanted it.
No one accepted the offer.
